You Can Help

Dedicated to surfers, slackers, backpackers, beach bums, and budget-conscious visitors to the “Gold Coast” of Costa Rica!

Most of us think of Costa Rica as a beautiful paradise where we can vacation or retire in luxury; where we can surf, go sport fishing, scuba dive, dine in wonderful restaurants, and relax on the beach . . . but we are oblivious to the thousands of Costa Ricans, including abandoned and orphaned children, who live in poverty, lacking essential food, clothing, healthcare, and other things that we take for granted . . .

. . . But, you can help, whether it be by contributing money (every dollar counts), donating items, or volunteering your time.

CEPIA Tica

One organization that is making a difference (and which we are particularly impressed with) is CEPIA. Please take a few minutes to visit CEPIA’s Web site. Once you’ve read about the good work that is being done, please come back here and make a donation (no matter how small). We will be continuing this fund drive through the end of the year and we would like to present CEPIA with a substantial check in January.

There are also several orphanages and missions in Guanacaste, which need your help. If you are planning a trip to the Gold Coast of Costa Rica, pack an extra suitcase full of toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, shampoo (save up the soaps and shampoos that you are given at hotels), clothes and toys (new or used), nonperishable food (such as oatmeal), etc. and bring it with you. Your cash donations and volunteered time would also be greatly appreciated. (We’ve received an e-mail from Carolyn in Colorado who is trying to get the local Eagle Lodge involved in collecting donations for the orphanages. Perhaps, you could do the same with an organization that you are involved with, in your community. We are also trying to find a courier service or airline which will provide us with free shipping of donated items.)

Our representative, in Costa Rica, to contact concerning gifts for orphanages and missions is Hannah Deighton. Hannah’s email address is hannah@gringoflamingo.com. Hannah would be happy to help coordinate the logistics of getting your gift to the appropriate place.

This summer (2007) EGF Costa Rica Group, the parent company of CostaFreakinRica.com, sponsored a pre-med student from Canada, named Katie, to come to Costa Rica to volunteer with CEPIA, as well as Pacific Emergencies. You can read Katie’s Blog, by clicking HERE.
